The Athletics and Contracts Finance Committee elected its chair and vice chair and explained its process of contract allocation Friday during its first meeting of the 2010-11 academic year.
ASUO Sen. Brianna Woodside-Gomez was appointed chairperson and fellow senator and Senate Ombudsman Ian Fielding was appointed vice chairperson of the committee.
Woodside-Gomez and Fielding were joined on the committee by at-large elected members Brian J. Williams and Andrew Quinlan and ASUO President Amelie Rousseau’s appointed member, Clark Kissiah.
At the meeting, the five members were informed of the “tags,” or a contract between the ASUO and another organization, that govern the ACFC process during the school year by previous ACFC members and ASUO Leadership Advisor Consuela Perez-Jefferis.
Recently appointed ASUO Chief of Staff Ben Eckstein explained that the size of the contract was fairly important in deciding on a tag.
“Being on a tag is the biggest responsibility you have on ACFC, so think carefully,” Eckstein said.
Woodside-Gomez reminded the members of the importance of doing well with their assigned contracts.
“This is our job, so really, really, don’t do the minimum,” Woodside-Gomez said.
Although no contracts were formally assigned Friday, two committee members took an interest in the contract between the ASUO and
University’s athletic department.
Fielding warned those interested in working with this contract of the significant workload it would entail.
“Whoever’s on this tag is probably going to be really busy,” Fielding said.
Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group chairperson Charles Denson attended the meeting, trying to garner support for his organization. Woodside-Gomez said she would be willing to work on an unofficial tag for the group.
