The Oregon women’s soccer team overcame a tough loss to Washington on Friday to beat Washington State 3-1 Sunday afternoon in Pullman.
With the win, the Ducks now sit 5-8-3 overall and 1-3-1 in Pacific-10 Conference play. The Cougars dropped to 6-11 on the year and 1-5 in Pac-10 games.
Senior Jen Stoltenberg continued to pace the Ducks offensively, knocking in two goals to tie the school record for career points along the way. The forward from Mission Viejo, Calif., sparked the come-from-behind win after the Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on an unassisted goal from Eileen Maes. Stoltenberg scored her first goal just five minutes later and the two teams took a 1-1 draw into halftime.
Oregon freshman Brynne Konkel scored the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute on a crossing pass from sophomore forward Kelsey Hones. Just 88 seconds later, Stoltenberg tallied her 12th goal of the season to put the Ducks up 3-1 for good.
Friday’s action featured a scoreless first half against the Huskies, in which Oregon out shot Washington 7-5 during the opening 45 minutes. Washington bounced back with goals in the 51st and 81st minutes to complete the 2-0 victory.
This week Oregon will host Arizona Friday and Arizona State Sunday in its final Pac-10 home games of the season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Sunday, which will be also serve as Senior Day for Oregon’s five seniors — Kirstie Kuhns, Bree Rowe, Stoltenberg, Mercedes Walters and Rianna Mansfield.
