Every year there are characters in pop culture that translate perfectly into a Halloween costume. They’re easily recognizable, the materials for the costume are easy to find, and it’s easy to replicate their personality in a way that will be funny at any Halloween party. The only problem is that these pop culture figures are so popular that everyone else thought of the exact same thing.
The past few Halloweens there have been a few too many Borats, Sarah Palins, dick-in-the-boxes, Jokers from Batman, Jack Sparrows and Alans from “The Hangover.” Halloween is all about creativity, and you don’t want to run into that person wearing the exact same costume. Here are a few warnings and predictions for costumes that there may be too many of this Halloween.
Lady Gaga
Talking to both Party City and Hirons, the creative pieces that go into making a Lady Gaga costume have been by far the most popular this year, so expect to see a fair amount of bubble dresses take the streets this year.
Don Draper from Mad Men
It’s an easy costume because all it takes is a suit, a pack of cigarettes and an Old Fashioned. The costume works well, because who doesn’t love the idea of carrying around scotch all night?
Cast of Jersey Shore
There’s no doubt there’s going to be an abundance of fist pumping on Halloween. Snooki has made the Garden State infamous for Bumpits. So save yourself 30 bucks, avoid the spray tan, add a baby bump and go as a Teen Mom instead.
Avatar
It seems like a time-consuming task to paint yourself entirely blue with stripes and add a tail, especially when you are going to run into duplicates on every corner. Unless you have already spent hours studying Na’vi, forget it.
Kenny Powers from Eastbound and Down
Kenny Powers is easily the greatest athlete to ever play professional sports, and he’s probably going to be the greatest costume idea in a lot of students’ minds. Be ready for a lot of greasy mullets and baseball uniforms.
Old Spice Men
Any of the characters from Old Spice will probably be making an appearance. When a commercial has 21.5 million views and its sequel has 15 million, there are bound to be a lot of guys running around on horses, on the beach or is it ship?
Always Sunny in Philadelphia Characters
Whether it’s green man, dick towel or just Frank, students are going to gravitate toward a show that has many themes that college students relate to.
