Eugene’s fall concert lineup brings a mix of nationally recognized acts combined with Northwest regional staples. For students looking to see groups most likely found on their iTunes, McDonald Theatre and WOW Hall promise to spur student interest all term long.
“Months ago, when our company discussed our strategy for our fall schedule, we wanted to concentrate on home-run hitters, i.e. sellouts,” said Mike Hergenreter of Kesey Enterprises Inc., which represents both the McDonald Theatre and the Cuthbert Amphitheater. “I feel we graciously accomplished this with acts such as Atmosphere and Tech N9ne as routine selling out, and Flaming Lips, Umphrey’s McGee and O.A.R. making strong statements at the box office.”
McDonald Theatre’s fall schedule kicks off Sept. 22 with the widely popular hip-hop group Atmosphere. Stopping in Eugene on its “To All My Friends Tour,” Atmosphere will perform many tracks from its recently released album, “To All My Friends, Blood Makes the Blade Holy: The Atmosphere EP’s,” which samples from the group’s previous albums.
Other bands appearing at the McDonald are Railroad Earth on Sept. 26 and The Flaming Lips on Sept. 29. The Flaming
Lips, who have won three Grammy Awards and were named by Q magazine as one of the “50 Bands to See Before You Die,” may be the largest name coming to Eugene this fall.
Tech N9ne will play with E-40 at McDonald Oct. 3, and NBC’s Last Comic Standing Live Tour comes Oct. 21. Indie pop band Stars plays Nov. 7, and the
electronic music duo Pretty Lights plays Nov. 20.
Unlike McDonald, whose fall schedule features one or two bands a week, WOW Hall has booked four to five acts each week. WOW Hall’s fall lineup promises another great season of both national and local acts with powerful shows in the venue’s more intimate, fun atmosphere.
EOTO, MiMOSA and MartyParty, three of the nation’s top five electro, dubstep, glitch and house music producers, are set to perform during the first week of fall term on Sept. 30.
“They are three really amazing acts all in one,” said Calyn Kelly, stage manager at WOW Hall.
Monotonix, a garage rock band from Tel Aviv, performs on Oct. 15.
“Monotonix are the ultimate rock show,” Kelly said.
Wiz Khalifa, a popular hip-hop act, performs Oct. 16. Blue Scholars, another popular Northwest hip-hop group, will perform back-to-back shows on Oct. 21 and 22. Dr. Dog promises to put on an energetic Halloween show, and Andre Nickatina plays Nov. 6.
