1 – Number of upperclassmen Oregon has in its regular playing rotation. Former Duck stars Sonja Newcombe, Neticia Enesi, and Nevena Djordjevic all graduated last year leaving Heather Meyers as the only junior or senior that sees playing time on a regular basis for the Ducks.
4 – Number of Pac-10 teams that are currently undefeated. Oregon, Stanford, USC, and California all have untarnished records, while Washington has only one loss to its name.
5 – Number of consecutive seasons a Pac-10 team won the NCAA National Championship from 2001-2005. Stanford won in 2001, USC in 2002 and 2003, Stanford again in 2004, and Washington in 2005.
6 – Number of Pac-10 schools ranked in the top 12 in the most recent AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) poll. No other conference has more than two schools represented in the top 12.
7 – Number of sets Stanford and California have combined to lose this season. Oregon will face the Cardinal and Golden Bears this weekend in the Bay Area hoping to increase that number and hand each conference opponent its first loss.
13 – Number of Pac-10 players that made one of the three AVCA All-American teams last season. Oregon was represented by then-seniors Neticia Enesi and Sonja Newcombe.
12- Pac-10 record for service aces in a match, set by Oregon’s Lauren Westendorf against Seton Hall in September of 2004. That same day, the Ducks set the Pac-10 team record for aces in a match with 22.
21 – Number of non-conference matches Pac-10 teams have lost. Arizona State and Oregon State were responsible for 14 of the 21 defeats.
91 – Number of non-conference matches the Pac-10 schools combined to win.
109 – Number of games Penn State won in a row before Oregon’s Pac-10 foe, Stanford, beat the Nittany Lions earlier this year. While the victory serves as notice of Stanford’s legitimacy as a national power, it’s also more affirmation of the Pac-10’s place atop the national conference hierarchy. That should help Pac-10 teams on the bubble come NCAA tournament time.
