Like most college campuses, Oregon is dominated by undergraduate students. According to the University website, Oregon has 18,514 undergraduate students and 3,872 graduate students. Though much of the nightlife activities around campus are geared toward undergraduate students between 18 and 22 years old, Eugene also offers a wide array of great locations that cater to students who fall outside of this demographic.
David Minor Theater — 180 E 5th Ave.
Located near the Fifth Street Market, the David Minor Theater is open daily from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. Shows at the theater range from $2 to $5, making it a great bargain. Almost every movie requires attendees to be 21 and over. Dinner and a movie is the David Minor’s claim to fame in Eugene. The theater delivers food from local restaurants Cornucopia and Café Lucky Noodle, while also offering an ample selection of beers.
The Bier Stein Bottleshop and Pub — 345 E 11th Ave.
With a German-inspired theme, the Bier Stein is a local pub that offers an extensive beer selection, along with food to complement. The Stein offers 10 beers on tap and an overwhelming variety of more than 1,000 bottled. Focused on West Coast brewing, the selections samples from all areas of the world, making it the best place to find a favorite beer.
WOW Hall — 291 W Eighth Ave.
Formerly a Woodmen of the World (WOW) lodge, WOW Hall is a renovated music hall offering a great lineup in a smaller, more personal venue. Completely volunteer run, most shows at WOW cost less than $20, making it ideal for any budget. Although performances are open to all ages, WOW’s basement bar is a secluded location where bands and attendees can rub shoulders over a couple drinks.
Agate Alley Bistro — 1461 E 19th Ave.
Only a block from the south side of campus, Agate Alley is not bunched in with the traditionally titled ‘campus bars.’ With a great drink menu and equally matched food selection, Agate Alley is a quiet, but always entertaining place to go on both weekdays and weekends without having to get into a car and drive somewhere. Taco Tuesdays at Agate are especially entertaining, as two tacos and a Pacifico beer are only $6.
Sam Bond’s Garage — 407 Blair Blvd.
Sam Bond’s is a small music venue located in the Whiteaker neighborhood, which is known for its vibrant culture. The low-key environment feels like a local pub, complete with food, music and entertainment. Both local and big name musicians play at the venue. The beer selection carries a nice variety with a fun pub-inspired menu.
Downtown Bars — Corner of West Broadway and Olive Street
In a four-block area of downtown stand John Henry’s, the Horse Head, Jameson’s, Starlight and the Eugene City Brewery, better known as the downtown bars. Entertainment ranges from concerts, to trivia, to ’80s night. The downtown bars offer an escape from other campus-centric bars and provide the perfect way to experience Eugene’s colorful local community.
