Eugene police and fire crews rescued a 32-year-old woman from the south bank of the Willamette River on Friday afternoon, and upon rescuing her, discovered she was wanted on two local warrants.
At about 1:36 p.m. Friday, bystanders called EPD after they saw a woman clinging to brush on the south bank of the Willamette River east of the Eugene Water and Electric Board building, saying the woman was yelling for help.
Officials found the woman standing knee-deep in water, wet from head to toe and clearly agitated and “emotionally distraught,” a press release said. She asked not to be helped and said she wanted to be left alone.
A water rescue team used a fan boat to lift the woman out of the water and take her into protective custody. The woman was later taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center on East 13th Avenue and Hilyard Street for evaluation, though representatives at Sacred Heart reported she had no injuries.
EPD spokesperson Melinda Kletzok said the woman was wanted for failing to appear in court after being charged with heroin possession
and criminal mischief.
