Job summary
The Advertising Director is employed by the Oregon Daily Emerald Publishing Co, Inc. and will work directly with the Publisher to manage and train student staff, develop print and new media revenue-generating products, promote the Oregon Daily Emerald on campus and in the community. The Advertising Director also works with the Creative Services Supervisor to assure a smooth workflow between departments.
Pay combines base salary and commission. The Advertising Director has established work hours at the Oregon Daily Emerald offices.
Summary of essential job functions
Personnel Management
- Hire and supervise student Advertising Sales Manager, Assistant and Executives
- Weekly training/meeting with sales staff
- Weekly individual meeting with sales staff
- Update goals and white boards
- Direct Student Ad Sales Manager
- Direct Advertising Assistant, cover duties in summer
Client Management
- Work with premium UO accounts
- Work with all national agencies
- Assist clients when Student Advertising Executives are unavailable
- Assign and reassign accounts as reps come and go or as needed
Sales Management
- Develop and sell new print products, including special sections and magazines
- Develop sales strategies, packaging and pricing for online and social media products
- Monitor Eugene Weekly, Register-Guard and UO calendars for sales leads
- Create and implement sales incentives
Marketing
- Participate with the Daily Emerald management team in refining the newspaper’s digital strategies
- Plan and organize marketing and outreach events
- Create, plan and distribute marketing materials
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, business or other relevant field
- Relevant experience in managing sales beginners and young professionals
- Prior business-to-business sales experience
- Proven management skills in coaching, motivating and promoting teamwork
- Strategic planning experience
- Computer literacy/experience with Word, Excel, Database Management
- Strong work ethic
