Championship fever isn’t a good enough reason to skip class next term.
Classes will not be canceled on the day of Oregon’s BCS National Championship Game appearance versus Auburn on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011. But professors are asked to respect excused and scheduled absences for students traveling to Glendale, Ariz.
Students should be present in their week one classes and the rest of week two, regardless of the game’s date, according to a letter sent from President Richard Lariviere and Senior Vice President and Provost Jim Bean on Tuesday morning.
Student-athletes and football team student assistants will miss the majority of week one and part of week two for travel, pregame preparations and the game itself. The marching band, color guard and cheerleading squad will miss at least three days of classes.
The University’s policy regarding postseason conflicts states that traveling to participate in a football game constitutes a legitimate excuse for missing class, but that the absence must be negotiated in advance with professors.
Oregon’s National Championship Game appearance is a point of great pride for the entire University and students, the letter stated.
