How/Why do you want to change the world?
I would like to see the reconstruction of systems so that historically marginalized communities are included and are able to benefit more. I would also like to work to empower students to achieve their goals. Although pursing higher education is great, it isn’t always what works best for people. People have different paths and timelines which is totally okay. Additionally, I would love to see more people decolonize their thinking, I know its a long process that doesn’t come easy but moving towards a goal better is better than not moving at all.
What are you proud to have been involved with at University of Oregon?
Being involved with ASUO was by far the best experience I had as a student last year. I was able to create change for the better and empower students. Seeing how powerful we can be when we come together was so mind blowing. Not only was I able to see the change within the UO but also on a state wide level! I was also able to teach an intern class for ASUO and it was such a blast! Seeing students develop their leadership skills is one of my favorite things.
Who is your biggest role model and why?
My mother, she is strong and resilient and always has a positive attitude no matter the situation. She has always been selfless and is always ready to help others. She is a giver and a strong pillar not only in our immediate family but with extended family as well. She is the best cook and is always looking for something to keep her hands busy. My mom has inspired me to reach for something that seems impossible. Mi madre es mi mayor inspiración.
What are your goals after college?
I would like to continue my education by attending grad school. I love learning Latin American history and the relationship it has with other countries. I know these plans may change but I never want to stop learning.
