How/Why do you want to change the world?
I want to change the world by creating more mental health resources for Asian American women. There is heavy stigma surrounding mental health, especially in the communities that I identify with. I want to end the stigma and create an organization for women of color, LGBTQIA+ community, and first-generation students by offering more education, support groups, and access to therapy.
What are you proud to have been involved with at University of Oregon?
I am most proud to be part of Alpha Phi Omega, a gender-inclusive national service & leadership fraternity at UO, where I served as the VP of Leadership Development. I had the opportunity to serve my community and university, create lifelong friendships, and help develop student leaders. I am also proud to be involved with Oregon Athletics as a Sports Nutrition Intern & served on Oregon Pit Crew because it gave women’s sports a bigger platform and got well-deserved recognition for their historic achievements.
Who is your biggest role model and why?
My biggest role model is Kobe Bryant. He inspired me to feel pride in my efforts, to make every day count, and to recognize the potential of all humans to become achievers and history makers. He motivated me to reach beyond our potential and to never settle. Once we feel like we’ve reached the top of the pyramid, keep going. He always said there is always success beyond success. He is gone too soon, but I hope to follow his Mamba Mentality forever.
What are your goals after college?
I will be pursuing a Masters in Clinical Social Work starting in Fall 2021. My ultimate goal is to become a clinical mental health therapist working with people of color who are diagnosed with eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma. During graduate school, I will continue conducting research on Asian American women and eating disorders. While I have yet to decide on a school, I have been accepted into programs at the University of Southern California (USC), Boston University, and New York University (NYU).
Which fictional character is most like yourself?
A fictional character that I relate to is Buzz Lightyear. I have daring dreams and consider myself to be an adventurous person who would love to go infinity and beyond! Most importantly, my friends know that they’ve got a friend in me.
