How/Why do you want to change the world?
I would love to start my own non-profit that supports children against violence and gives them the confidence to speak up for themselves. Recently, I partnered with Kids FIRST, a Eugene non-profit, who has agreed to distribute a children‚‘s book I’m writing, pending a grant from my sorority, Kappa Delta and the Holden Center. This project is something I have been very passionate about and I’m so excited to see it into fruition. My hope is that the book is a success and a starting point to begin my own organization. Children are our future, which is why it’s so important to invest in them. No child should ever feel like they are not good enough.
What are you proud to have been involved with at University of Oregon?
I simultaneously worked at the Student Rec Center, being a lifeguard and swim instructor, and at Parent and Family Programs as a Regional and Communication Coordinator. I’m proud to be a part of Kappa Delta sorority who hosts philanthropic work that benefits Prevent Child Abuse America and Looking Glass Station Seven. I assist in the execution of events with the local Girl Scouts to help build their leadership skills and confidence. Additionally, I’m a student voice on the University Appeals Board which seeks to uphold the University Conduct Code. This work allows me to exercise student advocacy while also understanding the University‚‘s perspective. As a graduating senior and soon to be alumni, I can proudly say that “I left my heart in Oregon”.
Who is your biggest role model and why?
My biggest role model is my mom. She raised me all by herself and I would not be where I am today without her support and guidance! She is very positive and encourages me to always give back, which reminds me to stay grateful and humble. We, along with my younger sister, have enjoyed the years of volunteering at various events, including at the LA Food Bank with UO and Wisconsin fans the day before the Rose Bowl game.
What are your goals after college?
After graduation, I am attending The Fund for American Studies, which is an academic internship program in Washington D.C. that’s supported by the Ronald Reagan Institute, which focuses on Leadership and the American Presidency. In the fall, I hope to be continuing my education in law school.
