How/Why do you want to change the world?
I want to change the world by breaking down barriers that prevent minorities from progressing in society. There are too many systemic barriers that continue to oppress individuals. To start, I would like to change the way people of color are portrayed within the media. I would like to change the narrative to create positive representation.
What are you proud to have been involved with at University of Oregon?
I’m proud to have held multiple jobs on campus. I have been a senior ambassador for The Ambassador Program, worked as a student administrative assistant in The Division of Equity and Inclusion, and now work for UO Admissions as a multicultural recruitment specialist. All my jobs have helped me gain skills as well as create connections not just on campus but off campus as well. I have been able to see the difference that these departments create, not just at UO but in the community, by helping others access education.
Who is your biggest role model and why?
I’ve never really had a role model because no one is perfect enough to look up to. As I navigate the world I learn from everyone I encounter, whether it be good or bad things. I use their experiences, advice, and mistakes to guide my decisions. I learn from my own experiences and that of others.
What are your goals after college?
After college I would like to work in both the public and private sector to gain experience with public relations. After this I would like to open my own firm that focuses on diverse communication as well as establishing a non-profit organization.
Which fictional character is most like yourself?
If I was a fictional character I would be my own Bratz doll. A fashionable doll that would feature my hoops, gloss, and big eyes. My own personality would shine through the doll.
What is one fun fact about you?
My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. In my family I’m in charge of all the food and I always cook a delicious, juicy turkey! It’s honestly an underrated holiday.
