Oregon softball has lost its third player in as many weeks, leaving the team without a catcher.

According to FloSoftball, sophomore catcher Mary Iakopo has decided to transfer out of the Oregon program.

Iakopo, a Carson, Calif. Native, would have been the team’s starting catcher following the graduation of last year’s Gwen Svekis.

After her freshman season with the Ducks, Iakopo was recognized with the honors of Second Team All-Pac-12 and a Pac-12 All-Freshman. She finished the season with eight home runs and 37 RBIs.

With Iakopo’s absence, the Oregon roster is without a catcher for the upcoming season, which starts on Feb. 8 in Tempe, Arizona. In order to fill the void behind the plate, Oregon head coach Melyssa Lombardi must decide whether to bring in a transfer or use a utility player in the taxing role.

Iakopo joins pitcher Miranda Elish and utility player Lauren Burke as the list of Oregon transfers grows now to three. Elish and Burke have already moved on and joined the Longhorns, following former Oregon head coach Mike White’s hiring at Texas.
