For the majority of games this season, Oregon has had stellar first halves. Tonight, in Pullman, that is not the case. For the entire first half, The Ducks looked out of sorts on offense and defense. In the first quarter alone Oregon averaged 1.6 yards on just six plays. The Cougars averaged 6.7 on 23 plays. However, Washington State only led 7-0. In the second, the Cougars flipped the switch and scored 20 points. Gardner Minshew II looked at ease, with 31-for-36 for 231 yards go and three touchdowns at halftime.
Key Plays:
James Williams rushed for 24 yards to score the first touchdown of the game. He broke multiple tackles and dived headfirst into the end zone.
Minshew fed a wide-open Renard Bell for a 15-yard score with 12:22 left in the first half. Oregon did block the extra point attempt. Minshew connected with Easop Winston on a 6-yard touchdown pass with just under two minutes in the first half.
Deommodore Lenior made a clutch interception on the Ducks own 10-yard line on the Washington State’s first drive. However, on the following play, the Ducks botched the snap, and the ball was dropped in the end zone. Herbert went down on in, and there was a false start called on the play, negating the safety.
Minshew capped on the second quarter blitz with a 6-yard pass to Max Borhi with just 41 seconds left to play.
