Oregon women’s tennis took its first road trip to San Diego Sunday afternoon, where the team claimed its first road win of the season in a 6-1 victory over the Toreros at the Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.
The Ducks won their first two doubles matches, forcing the third match to go unfinished.
The newly 17th ranked duo of Shweta Sangwan and Alyssa Tobita put on a mirror-image performance from Friday, winning their doubles match with a score of 6-2.
The second pair of Ducks, Rifanty Kahfiani and Julia Eshet, picked up where they left off in fall, beating their opponents Nicole Anderson and Daniela Morales 6-4.
The singles match category upped the ante from Friday’s opener, taking three matches into tiebreaker play. The most notable three-set match featured Eshet’s return.
In her sophomore season debut, Eshet played the No. 1 spot and capitalized, pulling out a three-set victory against Nicole Anderson, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
Daniela Nasser was dragged into her second consecutive three-set match. After falling 2-6 in her first set, Nasser took the second with a score of 7-5, forcing a third, in which she shutout her opponent 6-0.
This win signifies Oregon’s best start to a dual season since the 2013-14 season where the team went 4-0.
Oregon continues its road trip through California, heading to Malibu next to face Rice on Saturday, January 27, at 1 p.m.
