Thank you for the amazing articles in last Thursday’s Emerald.
I had grown worried that our own school newspaper was just as concerned with sports editorials as the rest of the country, but I was extremely excited to learn that there are writers willing to cover tough topics.
The front page article “Up in arms for a cause” and the second page articles “Donations value athletics over academic prestige” and “Academic research leaves little time for education” were well-written and expressed viewpoints that I hear around campus all the time.
This newspaper represents the students who read it, not big-name donors, prominent professors or our administration.
Last Thursday, on the opinion page specifically, you represented what concerns University students about our campus.
Covering controversial topics is what the media should be doing; thank you very much for doing so.
I would love to see more lengthy articles that work your journalistic prowess like these did.
