Oregon senior Joevan Catron eclipsed the 1,000-point career scoring mark on Saturday, but the men’s basketball team fell 90-82 to No. 18 Arizona in their final game of the regular season.
Catron scored a career-high 28 points to become the 30th player in Oregon history to reach 1,000 points. He now has 1,007 in 124 career games.
Arizona came in ready to take care of business, however, and wrapped up an outright Pacific-10 Conference title with its first undefeated home season (17-0) in the last 12 years.
The Wildcats (25-6, 14-4 Pac-10) connected on 11 three-pointers, while shooting 56 percent from the field to keep the game out of reach after jumping out to a 17-point lead early on.
Oregon chipped that lead down to six with more than five minutes remaining in the game, but Arizona held on to hand the Ducks their fourth consecutive loss to close out the year.
Sophomore forward Derrick Williams, a projected lottery pick in next year’s NBA draft, had a relatively quiet game because of foul trouble. He finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Kyle Fogg led the team with 20 points on 4-for-7 shooting from behind the three-point line.
For Oregon, Garrett Sim was the second-leading scorer with 14 points, while junior Malcolm Armstead recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists in his 34 minutes of action. Teondre Williams and Jay-R Strowbridge came off the bench to score eight and seven points, respectively.
Looking ahead, the Ducks earned the No. 7 seed in the Pac-10 tournament, which begins Wednesday, and they will play Arizona State for the third time this season. The Sun Devils are the 10th seed but have beaten Oregon in both matchups so far this season, including a 20-point victory in Tempe last Thursday.
The winner of that game will face No. 2 seed UCLA Thursday night.
