It took all six attempts, but Oregon senior Jamesha Youngblood nailed the third-best long jump in the nation to highlight the Ducks’ team performance at the UW Final Qualifier in Seattle this weekend.
Youngblood leapt 21 feet, 2 1/2 inches to win the event, surpassing her best jump of the season by eight inches. The senior from San Pablo, Calif., placed fourth in the long jump at the 2010 NCAA indoor meet.
The men’s mile saw Oregon runners finish first and third, as A.J. Acosta won in 3:58.39 and Mac Fleet ran 3:59.03. Fleet’s time is the 16th-best in the nation and will be a strong candidate for at-large qualification. Acosta would be automatically eligible, but he has exhausted his indoor eligibility and competed unattached.
Freshman Michael Berry continued his strong indoor campaign, setting a personal best of 46.67 in winning the men’s 400m. That time is the third-fastest in school history.
Senior Vernell Warren recorded a mark of 24 feet, 9 3/4 inches in the men’s long jump, an indoor personal best and the fifth-best in school history, to finish second.
