Claire Michel set the first major mark of the young season for Oregon track and field at Friday and Saturday’s Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
The senior from Clackamas broke her own school record by finishing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday, and first among collegians in the event. Her time of 10:11.64 beats her 2010 Pacific-10 Conference championship mark by six hundredths of a second.
Sixth-year senior Alex Wolff won his first meet of the year in the javelin, with a flight of 225 feet even on his third attempt. Senior A.J. Acosta added to the strong Friday showing with a third-place finish at 1,500 meters, clocking in at 3:45.20 as the second-place collegian.
Saturday belonged to the Ducks’ relay teams, as the women’s 4×100-meter relay and the men’s mile relay each took home victories. Mandy White, Amber Purvis, Lauryn Newson and English Gardner took the 4x100m relay in 44.47 seconds, the fourth-fastest time in school history, while David Klech, Eric Hersey, Bryan Harper and Mike Berry took the men’s mile relay in 3:10.48.
