Looking dapper in a black suit and fedora Thursday morning, ASUO President Amelie Rousseau said she felt different; while the other pieces of the student government moved tumultuously around her, she was able to avoid most of the conflicts.
Following a morning trip to Salem, the president went about the business of discussing campus issues, but the meetings were few and far between.
“(It was) much more relaxing,” Rousseau said. “It’s like a mini-vacation.”
While Rousseau feeds the fish on her desk on a daily basis, she singled out today’s feeding as a calming event.
“I did, I fed the fish,” Rousseau said. “Even though today wasn’t a busy day, it was a nice break.”
Addison Moore, University sophomore, is one of the student office assistants for EMU Suite 4, where the ASUO office is housed. While Moore noticed Rousseau seemed taller Thursday, she said not much else had changed.
“I didn’t see it any difference,” Moore said. “(She) was just chilling there, on (her) cell phone.”
Another office assistant, University junior Grace Thompson, similarly noticed a sameness to Rousseau’s appearance despite some — differences.
“I mean, she basically already lopped all her hair off once this year,” Thompson said. “I just figured this was something else like that. I hadn’t ever seen her wearing that tie before, but it wasn’t out of place in her ensemble.”
ASUO Accountant Lynn Giordano said she would not accept this from the president. Giordano, a professional staff member of the ASUO, holds long office hours in Suite 4 each day.
“No, that wasn’t Amelie,” Giordano said. “It’s been a long week dealing with the (Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group) stalemate, but that wasn’t Amelie.”
Rousseau has been trying to work with the ASUO Senate for the past two months to find some funds for the controversial advocacy organization.
The president also holds a seat on University Senate’s Committee to Commit Committees’ Commissions. After reading through a report the committee proposed, she received a tap on the shoulder.
With a wink and a wave, she was gone.
