The Oregon baseball team (5-7) lost its third straight game on Tuesday, this time by a score of 4-1 at the hands of rival Oregon State (10-3) in Corvallis.
Oregon starter Alex Keudell made it through just 4.1 innings, giving up eight hits and four earned runs in the process. The Ducks had seven total hits but managed just a single run for the second consecutive game.
The Beavers got on the board early, as leftfielder Garrett Nash led the first inning off with a double and later scored on a single from catcher Andrew Susac. Oregon State tacked on two more runs in the third inning before Oregon finally responded with a run in the top of the fifth.
Sophomore reliever Joey Housey managed to keep the Beavers at bay after replacing Keudell, but Oregon simply could not find a way to score. While Housey struck out six straight Oregon State batters, the Duck bats fell silent.
The best chance Oregon had came in the top of the seventh inning, when junior shortstop KC Serna singled to load the bases with just one out. Yet, the Beavers bore down and retired the following two batters. A threat was avoided, and Oregon never came close again.
Tony Bryant came away as the winning pitcher for Oregon State, while Matt Boyd earned a save with a scoreless final 2.2 innings. At the plate, Susac and shortstop Ryan Dunn combined for three hits and three RBIs.
For Oregon, Serna and sophomore third baseman J.J. Altobelli each had two hits, but the rest of the lineup was noticeably quiet.
Oregon begins a weekend series with BYU on Thursday at PK Park.
