The Oregon men’s basketball team saw its Pacific-10 Conference Tournament run come to an end in a 69-51 semifinal loss to the Washington Huskies Friday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Oregon defeated Arizona State and stunned UCLA in two games before, but the Washington depth and athleticism proved too much for the Ducks.
C.J. Wilcox and Terrence Ross paced the Huskies with 14 and 13 points, respectively, while Isaiah Thomas chipped in 10 points and 12 assists.
Thomas went on to lead Washington to its second consecutive Pac-10 Tournament title, hitting a game-winning jumper in the championship game against top-seeded Arizona as time expired.
Joevan Catron went out in style with an 18-point, nine-rebound performance, but the third game in as many nights had Oregon struggling to keep up with Washington down the stretch. The Huskies ended the game on a 14-4 run.
E.J. Singler and Malcolm Armstead had particularly strong games in the losing effort. Singler finished with 10 points, while Armstead added 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and six steals during his game-high 39 minutes of action.
After back-to-back career-high scoring efforts, Singler was named to the six-person all-tournament team. He scored a career-high 22 points against Arizona State on Wednesday, then bested that mark with a 24-point effort in the upset over UCLA. The sophomore from Medford averaged 18.7 points and five rebounds over the three games, and was joined by Oregon State’s Jared Cunningham, Washington State’s Klay Thompson, Arizona’s Derrick Williams and the Washington duo of Ross and Thomas on the all-tournament team.
Thomas was also named the Most Outstanding Player for the second year in a row.
