Despite three points apiece from senior Alex Breiner and Jana Drummond, the Oregon women’s lacrosse team fell 14-9 at Denver in Saturday’s regular season finale.
Breiner and Drummond each netted two goals and added an assist, while Jess Drummond chipped in two goals of her own, and Shannon Propst contributed one goal and one assist in the losing effort.
Oregon (7-8, 4-2 Mountain Pacific) ended the regular season in third place in the MPSF standings and will matchup with second-seeded Denver again in the semifinals of the conference tournament on April 29 in Moraga, Calif.
On Saturday, however, Denver looked to be the superior team as it recorded six of the first seven tallies to jump out to a 6-1 lead a little over eight minutes into the game.
The Ducks went on to finish the half with four consecutive goals to bring the score to 7-6, but the team wasn’t able to keep that momentum through the second half. The Pioneers found the back of the goal four straight times to gain an 11-6 advantage to start the second, and Oregon was never able to recover.
Defensively for the Ducks, sophomore goalkeeper Salliebeth Finnegan allowed six goals in more than 12 minutes of action before she was relieved for freshman Caroline Federighi, who closed out the final 47:57 and stopped eight of the 16 shots she faced.
