The Oregon men’s golf team placed all six scorers in the top 25, but came up just short of taking the Pacific-10 Conference team title when the University of Southern California edged the Ducks in a playoff to decide the tournament champion.@@http://www.golfstatresults.com//public/leaderboards/team/static/team2635.html@@
Oregon began the third and final day at the Stanford Golf Course in a tie for third place with UCLA at 20-over par, nine strokes off the team lead.@@http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=4387&SPID=246&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=205145452&DB_OEM_ID=500@@ The Ducks responded in a big way on Sunday, however, and shot a team-low score of 5-under 345 to catch USC, who shot 4-over 354 in the final round.@@http://www.golfstatresults.com//public/leaderboards/team/static/team2635.html@@
Yet, when it came to the extra competition, the Trojans needed only a single playoff hole to break the tie and win the Pac-10 crown. The individual title race also came down to a playoff competition, with USC’s Martin Trainer beating Oregon State’s Alex Moore on the seventh hole.
Individually for the Ducks, junior Andrew Vijarro and senior Jack Dukeminier tied for 11th place, while junior Daniel Miernicki tied for 16th. On the final day, Dukeminier and Miernicki each shot 5-under 67 to help the Ducks climb the leader board.
Junior Eugene Wong finished in a tie for 20th, with redshirt junior Jack Paton (t-22nd) and sophomore Robbie Ziegler (t-25th) rounding out the Oregon scoring.
Up next for the Ducks will be a trip to the NCAA Regionals, which begin May 19 at a site that has yet to be determined. Last season, Oregon cruised to a team victory at the Southwest Regional, 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Augusta State, then went on to place third at the NCAA Championships, which was the best team finish in school history.@@http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=4387&SPID=246&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=500&ATCLID=204955745@@
