The Ducks snapped both streaks at the expense of the California Golden Bears in a 60-46 victory. Oregon regains its .500 footing (13-13, 4-11 Pacific-10 Conference); Cal falls to 14-13
(6-10 Pac-10).
The Golden Bears came out cold in the first half, shooting just 19.1 percent from the field as the Ducks took a 32-21 halftime lead. Oregon held strong in the second half thanks to 12 made three-point shots on 35 attempts. Cal made just one of 26 attempted three-pointers.
Freshman point guard Ariel Thomas, starting for
the fifth straight game in place of Nia Jackson, scored a career-high 21 points to lead all scorers. Fellow
freshman Deanna Weaver added 13 points.
The night after she was named First Team Academic All-American by Capital One, Ducks forward Amanda Johnson scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Johnson becomes the first Academic All-America first-teamer for Oregon since Stefanie Kasperski (1989-90).
DeNesha Stallworth led Cal with 12 points, and forward Talia Caldwell had 10 points and 20 rebounds for the Golden Bears.
