On Saturday, another chapter will be added to Civil War history as the Oregon men’s basketball team faces off with Oregon State. Both teams have performed slightly better than expected so far this season, and Oregon even finds itself in the middle of the pack in the Pacific-10 Conference standings. Yet, this weekend the focus will be directed at one of the nation’s most storied rivalries. We’ll let the numbers tell the story.
335: Number of times Oregon and Oregon State will have met on the floor after Saturday’s game, an NCAA-record rivalry. In the rivalry’s history, Oregon State has a 183-151 advantage over Oregon.
1: Number of teams that have beaten both No. 12 Arizona and Washington so far during this season. That team is Oregon State, which claimed a 76-75 win over the Wildcats on Jan. 2 and a 68-56 victory over Washington on Feb. 3.
10.13: Number of steals per game averaged by Oregon State’s defense. This leads the nation, ahead of No. 20 Missouri (9.7), No. 16 Louisville (9.5) and No. 1 Kansas (8.5). Oregon averages 8.1 steals per game.
7: Number of steals the Beavers had in their first meeting with the Ducks back on Jan. 22.
50.0: Field goal percentage for Oregon in a 63-59 win over the Beavers on Jan. 22. Oregon State was held to 38.5 percent shooting, including 25 percent from three-point range.
3-2: Oregon State head coach Craig Robinson’s record against Oregon in his three-year career. Oregon State swept Oregon in two meetings last season for the first time since 1992-93.
3: School records captured by Oregon State sophomore Jared Cunningham: steals in one game (8), consecutive free throws made (34), and most free throws made in a single game without a miss (15). For the season, Cunningham is averaging 13.7 points and three steals per game.
4: Number of times Oregon State has forced 25 or more turnovers this season. The Beavers forced 26 against UCLA and 25 against Seattle, Howard and Texas-Pan American.
78.9: Points per game given up by Oregon State on the road. The Beavers give up just 65.9 points when playing at home. The Ducks are averaging 69.3 points per game so far this season.
15.9: Turnovers forced per game by Oregon. Oregon State turns the ball over 14.8 times per game on average. In the first meeting between the teams, the Ducks had 15 turnovers while the Beavers finished with 12.
