The No. 2 Oregon acrobatics and tumbling team improved its record to 3-0 with a win over Azusa Pacific this weekend in Azusa, Calif. The Ducks used a strong second-half performance to seal a 278.474-276.042 victory.
Oregon got off to a slow start, falling behind in the first three events of the night. Azusa Pacific took the compulsories, stunts, and pyramid events to take a 94.49-93.96 lead into halftime.
Immediately following intermission, Oregon made up some ground and gained momentum with a 29.22-27.87 win in the basket toss event. Having excelled at tumbling all year long, Oregon used a 9.95 score by Natasha Katzaroff in the open event to gain a nearly four-point edge.
In the final team routine, Azusa Pacific came roaring back with a 103.74-101.55 win in the event, but it was too late for the Cougars. Despite only taking two events, Oregon finished with the second-highest score of any team in the country this season.
Oregon will take the rest of the month off from dual competition and can next be seen at halftime of the men’s basketball game against California on Feb. 24.
Following that, the Ducks will welcome Baylor University to Matthew Knight Arena on March 7.
