The No. 14 Oregon women’s softball team closed out its first tournament of the season with a tough loss to Cal State Fullerton at the Kajikawa Classic. With the 4-3 loss Sunday afternoon, the Ducks ended the weekend 5-1 overall.
On Friday, Oregon made quick work of No. 19 Texas A&M, defeating the Aggies 5-0. At the top of the batting order, sophomores Kaylan Howard and Allie Burger recorded two hits in the victory. Junior Samantha Skillingstad earned her first win of the year in the circle, pitching seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out 12.
The Ducks cruised to another win over Mississippi that afternoon. Sophomore pitcher Jessica Moore tacked on her second win in as many days with another 12-strikeout performance. Moore also scored two runs to help her cause offensively.
The following day, Oregon exploded offensively. The Ducks defeated North Texas 12-4, then recorded a 10-0 victory over Nevada in the following contest.
Sophomore Samanatha Pappas launched her first home run of the season, while senior catcher Kaitlin Vitek sent two over the fence in the win over North Texas.
Oregon flexed its power in the win over Nevada, with Moore and junior Kelsey Chambers combining for three home runs.
Sunday, the Ducks suffered their first setback of the season in an eight-inning heartbreaker.
Chambers hit her third homer of the tournament, but Oregon gave up 10 hits in the losing effort.
Oregon will be back in action Friday when the team travels to Las Vegas for the Louisville Slugger Classic.
