Between 200 and 300 protesters marched around five different banks in downtown Eugene Thursday afternoon, leading to the arrest of 17 individuals. Protesters began their march around 12:30 p.m. in a non-violent, civil disobedience display.
Fifteen people were arrested for trespass in the second degree. One person was arrested for trespass in the second degree and warrant, and another arrested for resisting arrest, criminal trespass in the second degree and physical harassment.
EPD was aware of the plans for this march — which concluded around 5 p.m. — and met with Occupy organizers and bank managers to prepare for potential security risks. In the end, extra police resources were needed.
Protesters blocked driveways in the front and back entrances of the banks. Sitting and chanting, they even used a U-lock on the front door of one of the banks they marched by.
