Oregon may be facing more budget cuts as state tax and lottery revenues do not match what lawmakers anticipated. It was announced Thursday that state tax and lottery revenues for the 2011-2013 budget cycle that started in July are down approximately $107 million from previous estimates.
An Un-Occupy Portland movement moved into downtown Portland over the weekend. Less than a dozen protestors, the movement cited lack of organization, traffic congestion, vandalism and crime among others as reasons to stop the Occupy movement. The group followed the Occupy Portland protesters downtown, eventually ending up at the Salmon Springs Fountain.
Next month, Oregon’s Ocean Policy Advisory Council will meet to discuss where wave energy buoys may be allowed off the Oregon coast. The Council will meet Dec. 15 and 16 in Astoria, Ore. to discuss the future of the wave buoys plan. Wave buoys can be up to 140 feet long, 40 feet wide and have a 30-foot float rising out of the water. Some citizens are concerned with how wave buoys will affect their scenic ocean view.
The Oregon Health and Science University gave immigrants, the unemployed and the underemployed a way to get health checkups in Northeast Portland last week. Students from OHSU’s schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy and dentistry worked in teams to help the would-be patients. The program teaches students to work with other health disciplines while being exposed to other cultures.
The Eugene City Council will hear from the opponents to the Bascom Village plan for an affordable housing development at Park View Drive and County Farm Road.The council is scheduled to vote on the joint housing proposal from St. Vincent de Paul and the Housing and Community Services Agency of Lane County on Nov. 28 .
