The Oregon women’s basketball team defeated Nicholls State 95-76 Sunday afternoon to win the Global Sports Cage Classic title at Matthew Knight Arena.
Tournament MVP Amanda Johnson led the team with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson shot 10 for 18 from the floor and made five out of six free throws for the Ducks. Jasmin Holliday chipped in 19 points and nine boards.
Oregon is now undefeated through six games, the program’s best start since the 2004-05 season. The Ducks took a nine-point lead into halftime after a 12-3 run.
Nicholls State (3-3) was lead by freshman forward Alisha Allen (23 points) and sophomore guard KK Babin (21 points). The Colonels knocked down 12 three-pointers, the most the Ducks have allowed in a game this season.
Sunday’s win marked the end of six-game homestand for the Ducks. The team will hit the road Thursday to take on Fresno State. Oregon will return to Matthew Knight Arena next Sunday to host Portland at 2 p.m.
