Around 1:35 a.m., a group of several males was spotted fleeing the Treetops estate of Oregon University System Chancellor George Pernsteiner after his driveway and vehicles were vandalized presumably in protest of the state board’s decision to terminate University President Lariviere’s contract.
The vandalism included eggs thrown at his two cars, one of which appeared to have a cracked windshield, as well as a graffiti tag spray painted on the driveway reading, “THE HAT.” According to the Police dispatch the phrase was also spray painted on the front door and a note was left for Pernsteiner on the back porch. This is the first aggressive act to be committed in response to the board’s decision announced last Tuesday.
Emerald reporters arrived on scene moments after the event after receiving an anonymous tip.
The group of vandals marked the words “THE HAT,” into OUS Chanchellor George Pernsteiner’s home’s driveway in what appears to be solidarity with University President Richard Lariviere, after Pernsteiner and the Oregon University System board decided to not renew Lariviere’s contract.
