The No. 2 Oregon men’s golf team came away with a narrow two-shot victory in the final round of The Prestige at PGA West tournament in La Quinta, Calif., on Tuesday. It was the team’s second victory in as many tournaments to start the year.
Oregon’s final score for the tournament came in at 32-under 832, just two strokes ahead of Washington (834). No. 1 Stanford filled out the top three with a score of 840, followed by No. 28 San Diego State in fourth place (843). No. 18 Duke and San Francisco, meanwhile, tied for fifth place with scores of 856.
Senior Eugene Wong led the way for the Ducks, shooting a 12-under 204 for the tournament and finishing second overall. Fellow seniors Daniel Miernicki and Andrew Vijarro followed close behind in a tie for fifth with a 9-under 207, while freshman Rak Cho tied for 34th overall with an even-par 216.
Washington’s Cheng-Tsung Pan earned the individual title with a 15-under 201, overtaking Wong in the final round with a 7-under 65. San Diego State’s Todd Baek and San Diego’s Alex Ching, meanwhile, tied for third at 10-under par.
Oregon never trailed throughout the tournament’s 54 holes, and this was its second title of the year after winning the St. Mary’s Invitational by 13 strokes back on Sept. 20.@@http://www.golfstatresults.com//public/leaderboards/team/static/team2811.html@@
