Head football coach Chip Kelly and senior player representative David Paulson attended the first annual Pac-12 Conference media day Tuesday morning at the Fox Studio Lot in Los Angeles.
There was plenty of hype surrounding how Kelly would react to the inevitable questions surrounding the current NCAA investigation into Oregon’s recruiting practices, particularly with so-called street agent Willie Lyles.
From what I’ve heard, Kelly handled the situation as well as he could have given it was his first appearance before the media since his post-game press conference following Oregon’s spring football game in May.
Here’s a few points that were covered throughout the morning:
Rob Moseley of the Register-Guard reports Kelly was tight-lipped, but left room for further discussion once the investigation concludes.
He also points out some interesting adjustments to the conference’s officiating program.
The Oregonian’s John Canzano points out the effect Lyles had on media day without even attending, and for the most part those questions are still unanswered.
Here’s a few of the best quotes from each coach throughout the day.
Kelly’s excerpt from that page:
Q. Regardless what the findings may yield, there have been some recruits and I’ve read reports that express concerns about potential sanctions and stuff like that. To what extent has that become an issue that you’ve had to address in recruiting?
Coach Kelly: I haven’t had to address it with the recruits right now. We’re coming off back-to-back Pac-10 championships as we move into a brand-new league with a brand-new television contract, it’s a bright future for us. We had a berth in the Rose Bowl, we had a berth in the National Championship Game. And I understand from the kids we’ve talked to, our recruit something going very, very well.

Stanford All-American quarterback Andrew Luck showed up to media day with something of a beard on his face. Not very flattering, if you ask me.
Oregon State head coach Mike Riley says the Beavers can learn a lot from Oregon’s current situation.
Colorado Buffaloes new head coach Jon Embree participated in his first media day as a member of the Pac-12 Conference.
And, Commissioner Larry Scott discusses the future of the Pac-12, among other things.
Kelly and the rest of the Pac-12 coaches will head to New York for another media day event on Thursday. Oregon begins fall camp on Aug. 8.
