After eight long months of anticipation, we’ve arrived at Cowboys Stadium for tonight’s showdown between LSU and Oregon. The stakes really couldn’t be much higher as far as season openers go, and the feel here really does rival that of a BCS Bowl. Slowly, as I type this, fans are escaping the immense heat (it’s a cool 99 degrees right now) and beginning to filter into the vast confines of the stadium. The LSU band is already in place, and the Tigers fans are out in full force. Don’t see a whole lot of green and yellow yet, but it’s early and many Oregon fans are likely still tailgating.
As for the stadium, well, it’s just about everything you’d expect it to be. The infamous giant screen television hanging over the field is mesmerizing ,and everything from the steel columns to the plush leather chairs here in the press box screams 21st century modernity. As I look up from my keyboard, I notice that there is a display of Ford cars directly across the field from me. Of course. Jerry Jones wasn’t kidding around.
And so, with just over two hours left until kickoff, we wait. If you’re looking for me, odds are I’ll be staring at the most absurd TV in the world, or maybe buying a car. This is Texas, after all.
