Julie Armstrong is a junior forward for Oregon’s women’s soccer team from Delta, British Columbia. Armstrong has six caps for Canada and is the Ducks’ leading scorer this year with three goals to her name — all of which have been game-winners. She’s also tied for the team lead in assists with two. The Emerald caught up with her after practice to talk about soccer and her interests off the field.
ODE: How long have you been playing soccer?
JA: Since I was four years old.
Do you have a first soccer memory?
Scoring when I was a goalkeeper.
How good was your high school team?
In Canada, we don’t have high school teams, so I played club.
Do you have a favorite professional team?
Uh, I’ll go with Manchester United.
And your favorite player on the team?
(Wayne) Rooney — he just got a hat trick.
Do you think you’re a different person on and off the field?
Yeah, I’m really mean on the field, and off the field, I’m kind of nice.
