Oregon head coach Chip Kelly announced the reinstatement of Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso on Friday, making the junior eligible to play Saturday against Nevada.
Alonso was suspended in May after being arrested on alcohol-related charges, and also missed the entire 2010 season due to suspension and a knee injury. Senior Dewitt Stuckey started last week in Alonso’s place at middle linebacker, and it is unclear who will top the depth chart on Saturday.
A native of Los Gatos, Calif., Alonso has 13 total tackles in his Oregon career. Injuries and suspensions have frequently kept him off the field, but he impressed in last April’s Spring Game with four tackles, and has long been seen as a replacement to former starter Casey Matthews.
Should he see the field tomorrow, it will be the first time Alonso has played in an Oregon uniform since the 2010 Rose Bowl against Ohio State.
