Two LSU players, quarterback Jordan Jefferson and linebacker Joshua Johns, were suspended Friday after being charged with second-degree battery in the aftermath of a bar fight on Aug. 19. This is obviously a huge development in relation to Oregon’s season opener against the Tigers, and you can get more details here.
Senior Jarrett Lee will likely start for LSU in the place of Jefferson. Learn more about him in this short profile.
This latest news comes just a day after the suspension of LSU wide receiver Russell Shepard, who violated NCAA rules by discussing, somewhat ironically, a case involving Texas scout Willie Lyles with a teammate. Before the suspension, Shepard had been slotted in a starting role to open the season.
In lighter news, Sports Illustrated’s Andy Staples released a list of 15 impact freshmen today, and Oregon’s De’Anthony Thomas was included. Fellow freshman Tra Carson is also mentioned, alongside some glowing remarks from running backs coach Gary Campbell.
