The Oregon women’s tennis team kicks off the official dual season in a week, and will begin preparations with a pair of tournaments this weekend. The Ducks will send athletes to the Doug Freeman Memorial in Las Vegas, Nev., as well as the John and Phil’s Toyota Championship in Albany, Ore.
The Freeman Memorial takes place Friday and Saturday, while the Toyota Championship runs Saturday and Sunday.
Oregon will send senior Pavlina Smatova, junior Trudie du Toit, sophomore Patricia Skowronski and freshman Lana Buttner to the Freeman Memorial. Seven ranked teams will be featured at the event: top-ranked Stanford, No. 2 Florida, No. 5 UCLA, No. 6 North Carolina, No. 19 USC, No. 20 Arizona State and No. 29 UNLV.
Senior Siobhan Cavan, sophomores Molly McDevitt and Lena Macomson and freshmen Rabea Stueckemann and Pascale Neubert (added to the Oregon roster over winter break) will head to Albany for a chance to gain a little more experience in the early season.
Doubles play starts Jan. 21 with a home match against Portland State.
