I suggest that a correction is in order. Your recent guest commentary by Robert D. Lowry about Angela Davis’ visit includes a number of inaccuracies, including unsubstantiated accusations of criminal wrongdoing. Lowry states that Davis supplied guns in relation to the Marin County courtroom incident in 1970. Davis was found not guilty on all charges (including the conspiracy charges) related to this incident at the conclusion of her trial on June 5, 1972.
Lowry also suggests that Davis smuggled guns into Folsom Prison. There is no evidence that this ever took place. Lowry appears to have Davis confused with George Jackson’s lawyer, Stephen Bingham, who allegedly (this was never established by the police investigation) smuggled a gun into San Quentin (not Folsom) Prison on Aug. 21, 1971. The gun was allegedly concealed under an afro wig (not in an actual hairdo, as Lowry states).
