University senior Patrick Compton plead not guilty to charges of second-degree manslaughter and drunk driving during his arraignment on Tuesday. Compton and his lawyer Donald “Scott” Upham appeared at the Lane County Courthouse on a grand jury indictment.
The accident which resulted in the death of University senior Craig Macfie occurred around 2:30 a.m. Nov. 18. By Nov. 23, his mother Karen Compton had paid a $19,500 bond as a part of his $195,000 bail.
Comptons next trial date is set for Jan. 11. Some of the conditions of his release include a monitoring ankle bracelet, abstaining from drinking alcohol, and submitting to random sobriety tests.
