This was one of my favorite moments of the year, and certainly ranks number one on the extensive list of De’Anthony Thomas highlights. I’ve seen a lot of things in the decade or so that I’ve been watching football consistently, but never have I witnessed a defender be so thoroughly embarrassed in the open field. It was as if Thomas had him on a rope, tossing him left-right-left-right until he reached the endzone, untouched. Up in the press box, I literally broke out into laughter when I watched it happen. How else do you react to that kind of unrestrained creativity?
Thomas, in many ways, reminds me of a basketball player in the way he crosses up defenders and finds open seams where there appear to be none. This particular play was like an Allen Iverson crossover, leaving a nameless defender shaking his head and, ultimately, putting just a few more points on the board:
