No. 36 Oregon women’s tennis earned its seventh straight win today, defeating Washington State 5-2 in its first Pac-12 match of the season.
Oregon advanced its record to 9-2, 1-0 Pac-12.
Kennan Johnson and Shweta Sangwan won their doubles match 7-6 to give Oregon the doubles point.
Oregon held a 1-0 lead before WSU earned the first point of singles play to tie the score.
Sangwan fought back for the Ducks just as she had and doubles, securing a singles victory on court No. 4. Her win was backed up by wins from Johnson, Alyssa Tobita and Daniela Nasser.
Oregon’s only losses in singles were on courts No. 2 and No. 5, where Nia Rosa and Chrisi Woodson fell, giving the Cougars their sole two points of the day.
The Ducks earned today’s 5-2 victory with relative ease, but things won’t be so easy on Sunday, when they take on No. 49 Washington for the Women in Flight match.
The Huskies boast the No. 105-ranked singles player Stacey Fung. The freshman took home a win over the No. 101 singles player from USC last weekend and went 5-1 in the Jack Kramer Invitational at the beginning of the winter season.
Play against Washington begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Student Tennis Center.
