In the second day of competition at the NCAA West Regionals, Oregon track and field raked in qualifiers across the board. The reigning Pac-12 champions advanced seven men and five women for the day, and will return for one more day of qualifiers tomorrow.
One of the Ducks’ biggest achievements for the day was the advance of all three of their competitors in the women’s 800. Raevyn Rogers, Annie Leblanc and Brooke Feldmeier made close finishes, 2:05.36, 2:05.38, 2:06.22, respectively, to move on to the finals in Eugene. Rogers is looking to hold onto her NCAA title in the event.
Other top contenders for the women Hannah Cunliffe and Ariana Washington each won their heats of the 100 meters with the first and fourth fastest times, respectively. In addition to solo events, the women are also competing in the 4×100 meter relay.
Oregon took home another first when 14-time All-American Edward Cheserek won the men’s 10,000 in 29:45.41. Cheserek is the two-time defending champion for the event in the NCAA championships, and although he faced a rocky mid-season stretch, the junior will be back in action in June.
In shorter events, Marcus Chambers used a ninth place finish to move to the finals in the 400 meters. Ben Thiel also ran a season best to qualify for NCAAs in the 400 hurdles.
Off the track, the men’s side held up in the field events as well.
In the men’s, Gregg Skipper in the hammer throw, Cody Danielson and John Nizich in the javelin and Cole Walsh in the pole vault each advanced.
The Ducks will be back in action tomorrow for the final day of the Western Regionals before moving on to the championships.
