Down to their final two outs in the seventh inning, the UCLA Bruins scored the first earned run against Oregon’s pitching staff this postseason.
Gabrielle Maurice’s home run sailed over the right field fence, sending the game to extra innings.
Mysha Sataraka led off the ninth with a double. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and Madeline Jelenicki singled to give UCLA a 2-1 win in game two of the Eugene NCAA Super Regional.
A decisive game three with a trip to the Women’s College World Series will be on the line when the two teams rematch at 7:20 p.m. at Jane Sanders Stadium.
The Bruins benefited from a complete game from Selina Ta’amilo, who allowed four hits and struck out nine Oregon batters while throwing 113 pitches.
Ta’amilo came on in relief to pitch four innings of scoreless ball in Saturday’s 8-1 loss to Oregon.
Jenna Lilley gave Oregon its lone run of the game when she led off the first inning with a triple. Nikki Udria then popped out to UCLA’s shortstop to score Lilley in shallow left field on a sacrifice fly.
Lilley had two of Oregon’s four hits against Ta’amilo. Alyssa Gillespie, who is hitting 9-for-13 in the postseason, had an infield hit in the third inning.
Koral Costa led off the ninth inning with a hit, but Ta’amilo retired the next three Ducks to end the threat.
Kleist started in the circle for the Ducks. She allowed two earned runs, nine hits and struck out four. Both Cheridan Hawkins and Geri Ann Glasco threw in the bullpen during the game, but did not pitch.
The winner of game three will face Auburn in Oklahoma City on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. PST.
