After earning the Pac-12 men’s and women’s track and field titles last weekend, the Ducks took home more honors this week when head coach Robert Johnson was named Pac-12 Women’s Coach of the Year and four other athletes took top conference honors.
Pac-12 championship standouts Hannah Cunliffe and Devon Allen were named as the men’s and women’s Pac-12 Athlete of the Year.
Both sprinters contributed major points for Oregon over the weekend, including a victory for the women’s short relay team and third place finish for the men’s where both, respectively, competed.
The Ducks picked up more best of the year honors when freshmen Matthew Maton and Ariana Washington were named the men’s and women’s Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.
True-freshman Maton made his Hayward Field debut in an Oregon uniform just two weeks ago at the Oregon Twilight Meet before advancing to the conference meet where he took second in the 1,500-meter race, finishing in 3:39.97.
Washington ensured Oregon women’s sprints had a fruitful weekend with a top three finish in both the 100 and 200 meters, as well as her position on the Pac-12 record-setting 4×100 team with Cunliffe.
Switching from the athletes to coaches, Johnson received the honor of Pac-12 Women’s Coach of the Year for the third time in the past four years.
The Ducks will compete at the NCAA Regionals in Lawrence, Kansas at the end of the month and host the NCAA Championships on June 8-11 at Hayward Field.
