The Ducks women’s golf team continued its strong play to open the spring season as it shot 10-under par to win the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona. This is the first tournament win of the season for the Ducks, and the team’s 54-hole score (854) is tied for the third-best total in program history.
Leading the charge for the Ducks were junior Cathleen Santoso and senior Caroline Inglis, who both finished tied for third overall and posted 4-under par (212) over the course of the three-round tournament. Following close behind was freshman Kathleen Scavo, who tied for 9th overall with 2-under par (214).
Oregon got off to a quick start and settled nicely into first place after the first round came to an end. Inglis and Salko shot 2-under (70) and 3-under (69) par respectively to pace the Ducks, who, as a team, shot 3-under par for the round (285).
Round 2 saw even more success for the Ducks as they increased their lead heading into the final round. The round was all Ducks, as Santoso and Inglis each posted 3-under par (69) with Scavo shooting 2-under par (70). The Ducks finished with a season low 6-under par (282) for the round and had a six-stroke lead over the next team.
They road that momentum into the third round, in which they added to their lead. Santoso paced the Ducks in the final round, shooting 2-under par (70), followed by Scavo (1-under, 71), with Inlgis and Salko following close behind (both 1-over, 73). The final round was actually the worst round the Ducks played all weekend, and yet they still posted a 1-under par (287).
The Ducks will get back to action in two weeks (March 5-6) when they travel to Gainesville, Florida for the SunTrust Gator Invitational at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.
