– On Monday, Oregon coach Mark Helfrich announced that Don Pellum has been demoted from defensive coordinator to linebackers coach. Also, Helfrich said linebacker’s coach Eric Chinander will accept a position to become a defensive coordinator at another FBS school. It’s been reported that Chinander will land at the University of Central Florida. The Oregonian took a look at potential candidates to replace Pellum as defensive coordinator.
– In a busy day for Oregon football, The Oregonian reported that quarterback Morgan Mahalak has asked for and been granted a release from the program explore alternate options, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will depart the program.
– Redshirt junior wide receiver Bralon Addison announced on Monday that he will forgo his senior season in Eugene and enter the NFL draft. For the 2015 season, he led the team in receiving, catching 63 passes for 804 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was named a second-team All-Pac-12 for his performance this year.
– Addison explained his decision in an interview with The Oregonian on Monday night.
“I feel like at the collegiate level my ceiling was there,”Addison told The Oregonian. “I don’t know if there was much more I could do to gain, personally, from coming back another year. I know I could have helped the team and things like that, but this has been my dream a long time; I wanted to pursue that.”
– On Monday night, the Oregon women’s basketball lost a halftime lead to USC in Los Angeles 74-67. The loss is the second straight for the Ducks, who play back-to-back games this weekend against No. 11 Oregon State.
– Oregon men’s basketball coach Dana Altman on Tuesday confirmed a report that freshman Trevor Manuel intends to transfer from the program 15 games into his collegiate career.
– Ducks men’s tennis is No. 49 in the opening ITA collegiate rankings, which were released on Tuesday afternoon. The Ducks finished fifth in the Pac-12 last season with a 15-9 record.
– Dakota Prukrop, a fifth year graduate transfer quarterback now enrolled at the University of Oregon, said it felt like Christmas Day to be on the Eugene campus for the start of classes.
