Mitch Karraker has been named the new Oregon baseball pitching coach, head coach George Horton announced Tuesday afternoon via a news release.
Karraker’s promotion comes after Dean Stiles departed Eugene to become the pitching coach at Florida International.
Karraker was a catcher for Oregon from 2009 to 2011. After 2011, he spent four season in various roles with the program, including as an administrative assistant, an undergraduate assistant coach and as a student manager.
“Mitch will be a great addition to our staff,” Horton said in the news release. “He has proven himself over the last seven seasons and I’m excited to see him take the next step. His dedication and hard work have been assets to our program and I expect him to excel in his new role.”
Stiles leaves after five years with the Oregon baseball program as a volunteer assistant coach. Following the 2015 season, Stiles served as an assistant pitching coach for the Eugene Emeralds, a Class-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
Oregon’s season begins on Feb. 19 with a three-game series against San Diego State.
